Projects and Sessions
After reading this page you will be able to: pick the right project folder for each task, so files AI produces always land in the right place.
A project is just an ordinary local folder — the scope AI works in. Point a session at a project and AI can read, create, and modify files inside it; you can also chat without one, but files won’t be filed into a project automatically.
1. Picking a project when creating a session
Section titled “1. Picking a project when creating a session”Where: New-session screen → “Work in a project” below the input box (marked “Optional”)
- Click “Work in a project” to open the picker
- The “Search projects…” box at the top filters your recent projects by name or path
- Click “Choose a different folder” to pick any folder in the system dialog
- Once chosen, a folder pill appears below; click the × on it (the “Clear” hint) to deselect
To chat without a project, leave it as is; “No Project” in the menu also exits the choice.
2. Sessions without a project use a temporary space
Section titled “2. Sessions without a project use a temporary space”Start chatting without picking a project and AI works in a “temporary space”. It suits quick Q&A tasks that don’t need lasting files; to keep results in a folder later, sort them into a project during the session, or start a new session with a project attached.
3. One project, many sessions
Section titled “3. One project, many sessions”The sidebar session list groups by project: the “Projects” section sits above “Conversations”, and every session under the same project is collected in its group, without interfering with each other.
Right-click a project group:

4. Adding or removing folders in a project
Section titled “4. Adding or removing folders in a project”A project can hold several folders (code and assets kept apart, for example):
- In the workspace panel click Add folder to project at the top right and pick a folder
- Right-click an unwanted folder and choose Remove from project — it only leaves the project, nothing is deleted from disk
You get a warning if the folder is already in the project or overlaps an existing one, so nothing is added twice.
5. Saving uploads into the project

With this switch on, files you upload in chat are saved into the current project folder, ready for AI to use; off, they stay as temporary attachments and never enter the project. The upload actions themselves are covered in Chat Input.
How to tell it worked
Section titled “How to tell it worked”- You can search and pick your own folder from “Work in a project” on a new session
- The “Projects” section in the sidebar shows several sessions under one project
- You can add a second folder to a project and remove it again
- With “Save Uploads to Project Folder” on, uploaded files appear inside the project folder
